Judson Performance & History

Judson Memorial Church has a distinguished history of activism and is also known for its equally impressive history of hosting avant-garde theater and dance performance. Financed by the Rockefeller family and designed by renowned New York architect Stanford White, the Meeting Room, where performances of Faust 3 take place, also boasts the work of sculptor Augustus St. Gaudens and the largest collection of John Lafarge stained glass windows in the world.  Judson is synonymous with the birth of contemporary dance in America and has long been a home to theater and performance of all kinds.

For example, Judson hosts Movement Research, where choreographers test out new material each week.  It is a crucial incubator in the New York dance scene.  Movement Research

A haven in the current climate, Judson hosts many organizations that are fighting for justice and equality.  Working on the forefront of immigration, the New Sanctuary Movement has found a home at Judson.  New Sanctuary Movement
